Obesity

It is the excessive, rather diffuse or generalized accumulation of fat leading to a significant increase in body weight. Obesity results from a positive caloric balance, due both to excessive food intake and to a reduced caloric output from little physical activity (sedentarism). This disease is very common in those areas in the world with great provisions of food. It is more frequent in groups whose socioeconomic and cultural levels are rather low. Any excessive weight has a negative effect on longevity and on the quality of life.

Es la acumulación excesiva de grasa que conduce a una elevación considerable del peso corporal. La obesidad es la consecuencia de un balance calórico positivo, tanto por ingreso alimentario excesivo como por un gasto calórico con actividad física limitada (sedentarismo). Es una enfermedad muy difundida en aquellas áreas del mundo que tienen gran provisión de alimentos. Todo exceso de peso tiene un efecto negativo sobre la longevidad y calidad de vida del hombre.
