The infectious process is the result of an imbalance in the relationship of the microorganism and the host (human being). The degree of severity of the infection depends on the aggresiveness of the microorganism and the immunologic state of the host to fight such infection.
Some infectious agents are themselves highly aggressive, independent of the defense level of the individual. Other microorganisms, although unable to produce a serious infection in a previously healthy patient, become potentially aggressive when they find an individual with a weakened defense mechanism.
El proceso infeccioso resulta de un desequilibrio en la relación entre el microorganismo y el huésped (ser humano). El grado de severidad de la infección varía de acuerdo a la agresividad del microorganismo y al estado inmunológico del huésped para hacer frente a dicha infección.
Algunos agentes infecciosos son de por sí altamente agresivos, independientemente del nivel de defensas del individuo. Otros microorganismos, si bien no producen una infección seria en un paciente previamente sano, se hacen potencialmente agresivos cuando encuentran un individuo con sus defensas disminuidas.
