Fever refers to the increase in body temperature over 98.06 degrees Fahrenheit (36.7 degrees Celsius), this being the temperature of blood in the great arteries of the body under normal conditions, which is also called central temperature. Body temperature is regulated by the hypothalamus, a gland located in the brain, near the hypophysis, which is in charge of secreting different hormones in response to stimuli. Fever is a symptom that occurs in face of an external or internal agent harming the body. It is no other than the externalization of defense mechanism that has been put into action so as to control the harmful agent.
Se denomina fiebre al aumento de la temperatura corporal superior a los 36.7 ºC, temperatura que en condiciones normales tiene la sangre en las grandes arterias del cuerpo, por eso se la denomina también temperatura central. La temperatura corporal se encuentra regulada por el hipotálamo, que es una glándula situada en el cerebro cerca de la hipófisis y que secreta distintas hormonas en respuesta a los estímulos. La fiebre es un síntoma que se genera motivada por un agente externo o interno que se encuentra dañando el organismo, no es otra cosa más que la exteriorización de todo el mecanismo defensivo que se ha puesto en marcha para poder controlar el microorganismo que está produciendo el daño.
