Urinary incontinence

EnglishSpanish
Urinay incontinence (UI) is defined as the involuntary loss of urine, a social and hygienic problem that can objectively be proved. It consists in a pathology that can affect both healthy people and those who suffer from a number of conditions.

Although UI can also affect people of all ages and both sexes, it is more frequent in women when they become middle-aged. This is not to say that the incidence and prevalence are not the same for men and women when they are 65, a fact that does not but increase progressively with the passing of years. From a clinical point of view, UI can manifest in three different ways: urge incontinence, exertional incontinence and overflow incontinence. Other forms include continuous incontinence (in case of a urinary fistula), mixed incontinence (urge and exertion incontinence together), and urinary incontinence associated with sexual activity, among others. It can be neurologic or non-neurologic.
